China’s capital is Beijing located in the northeast of China. The city is one of the biggest metropolitan centres in the world. Also, the country has the highest population in the world. Anyway, China is one of the oldest civilizations on earth. As an empire, China exists for more than four thousand years. China is a country with many superlatives.

The climate is hot in the summer and cold in the winter. The city suffers from smoke and heavy traffic as well as other problems. In two years the Olympic games will start in Beijing. That’s obviously because in many places construction works going on. With the games, China wants to come closer to the world. Obviously, the Chinese enjoy the attention.

Beijing duck is just only one of uncountable, delicious and various excellent Chinese food. But not only Chinese cuisine is famous. The Chinese art and culture like Beijing Opera or calligraphy is another.

Due to its long history, Beijing has to offer a lot of interesting architectural and cultural things. For instance, the Forbidden City, the Temple of Heaven or the Summer Palace. Just to mention a couple of famous historical locations. For centuries China had isolated itself from the rest of the world. Therefore, to protect Beijing from the outside, the empire built the Great Wall. The longest wall in the world. However, since China has reopened again, tourists from all over the world visiting the country today.

Uncountable tourists visit the city year by year. Of course, most of them are Chinese tourists. But many foreign tourists from all over the world as well. Beijing has the biggest town square in the world, Tian’anmen square. The town square borders one side of the Forbidden City. The Forbidden City is a museum today and is open to everybody.
